1. Press the HOME button, then press MENU.

2. Navigate to SETTINGS by using the 5-way controller, then press select button (square-shaped middle button) on the 5-way controller.

3. Select "Wi-Fi Settings" to show available Wi-Fi networks.

4. Select a private or public Wi-Fi network. Private networks are shown with a lock icon and require a password. The Kindle asks for a "password" but it's proper name is a "wireless key" (a WEP or WPA key). This key will be on a sticker somewhere on your router, or you can get it from your router's configuration utility in a web browser.

The newer 'touch' Kindles are slightly different - no 5-way controller - but the Amazon website, and the manual you got with the Kindle will both tell you how to set up your particular model.
