"trying to check and fix bad registry entries" is probably the cause of your BSOD. You should stay away from the registry unless you know what you are doing. Go into Safe Mode and restore to an earlier time from there.

Yes, boot to safe mode if you can and use system restore to roll back what you did by choosing a prior date.
If you cannot get into Safe mode, use install disk, recovery disk. or recovery partition and do a 'Repair', or a start up repair and a system restore both. ((Do not do a factory restore unless you have your files backed up on another drive since this will erase everything and return you to factory new condition.))

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

you do not need any 3rd party registry programs if your using win7, and to be honest there is little to no need to touch the registry..especially if your not 100% sure of what your doing...

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
