I keep getting this error whenever I try to install avg free 2011


error code: 0xC0070643 gerneral internal error
additional message: msi engine: failed to install the product
context: redistributable installation
severity: error
additional message: installing 3rd party redistributables failed

use the avg removal tool found on there site, remove any remnants of AVG, then I suggest installing AVAST. also free. There have been enough problems with AVG 2011, I recommend using another product.
Also if you have issues installing avast too, then perhaps you have a virus that is preventing anti virus products from installing correctly.

Also note that if you originally had Norton or McAfee or even a trial version of either one, you will need to go to their website to download their removal tool to completely remove all traces of it. Even a line in your registry that you normally could not see can prevent another antivirus program from properly installing.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thanks, I got it to work, except not the way that was suggested. The microsoft c++ wasnt fully installed on the computer. This computer wouldnt have a virus that is blocking anti virus programs because it was fresh outta the box. thank you for your help

I was noting that sometimes systems come with trial periods of an antivirus program and completely removing it is often needed. Glad to hear you got it running.
