You need to provide more information. Is the RAM recognized in the BIOS? Are you sure the RAM you bought is compatible with your system? Go to http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ to check the required specifications for your computer. If you have the correct RAM try re-seating them in available RAM slots (preferably in dual channel). Keep in mind that you could have fried the module with static electricity if you didn't ground yourself properly. Other factors that may have affected it could be dust in the RAM slots. In this case, use a can of compressed air to remove the dust, but never try to blow the dust with your mouth as saliva can damage vital components.

Okerepeterc, shot in the dark here, I'm thinking that your machine hasn't detected the addition yet. It should have when you installed it, but... Try rebooting to let the computer 'detect' the new memory.

In addition to the above, be sure you unplug the computer before making any changes inside the case.

Are you sure that amount of RAM isn't 2.24GB of RAM instead?

You need to post the motherboard model or the full model number if an off the shelf computer.

Can you post a screenshot of the window where it is written as 224 MB ? You write as if you installed other size RAM sticks before.

The laptop uses DDR2 type of RAM, I installed two different 1Gb making it a total of 2Gb, but the Laptop writes usable RAM 224MB so I removed one of the 1Gb the laptop still writes usable RAM 224MB. But before this problem the laptop used to write usable RAM 1.8GB on this same RAM that is showing 224MB usable RAM.

This makes the laptop unable to be installed Windows 7 while Windows 7 was the laptop default OS

Did you pull the battery out before messing with the RAM?

Watch the POST screens to determine how much RAM the BIOS is Identifying. Usable RAM and physical RAM are different measurements.
