Specs: Windows 7
i logged into my computer the other day and my desktop image (which was set to a scene specific slideshow as provided by windows 7 which changed every 30 minutes) was gone and replaced with a black screen. i've tried resetting the desktop to the way it was before but when i click save changes and close out of the personalization window black is still there. i've restarted, i've refreshed the desktop. the only thing i can do is change the solid color. ....don't want any answers that involve me downloading a program or requiring i click a spyware laden link....a legitimate response from a honest techie would suffice. my hp was infected and took it to geek squad and the problem was removed.

Some system files was apparently corrupted from the infection, the infection is not gone, but at least some of the damage is still there. If you can pinpoint the date well before you began having any problem with the infection at all, then you can do a system restore to that date. Your files will be unaffected by the system restore but any program installs and any updates installed will need to be reinstalled but this should repair all of your system files. You will probably need to check off the "show more restore points" in order to see all of the choices.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

personally i would save my files and do a complete factory restore, will only take you an hour or so and save you lots of frustration. a factory restore deletes the C: drive and restores your system to the day it was bought.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
