Specs: Windows 7, 2 GB
I have a laptop Dell Latitude D531. Its quite old. Its Second hand which i got from the seller who used only 5 weeks. His dad gifted him a new Laptop so he sold it.
This laptop actually had Windows Xp and the seller changed it into Windows 7. My Laptop is not running well and has quite viruses in it. So to remove the viruses and make my Laptop run better i want to install Windows xp back. How can I do it?
Please explain breifly or logically or in a short way which I can understand.
Thank you for your concern. If you answer i will be very happy but if you dont its OK. But if you can please answer.
Thanks again.

Visit Dell Support and download the manual. I believe you will find the necessary info about how you can revert to Windows XP in the manual.

You could try Ctrl-F11 at startup and see if you get the option to Restore to Factory settings.

XP is over 10 yrs old. I suggest you stick with WIn7 & just remove the viruses. If you insist on XP, try what Jennifer suggested 1st. If that doesn't work, you will need to use an XP disc for the installation. One problem you will encounter is that your laptop has a SATA HDD & XP doesn't support SATA drives "out of the box". So you will either have to enter the BIOS & change the HDD setting to IDE compatibility mode, or you'll have to burn a new XP disc with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it. You will also have to round up all the rest of the XP drivers. No matter how you look at it, you have a lot of work ahead of you.

When switching from XP to win 7....you cannot upgrade....you have to do a fresh install, so that means reformat the drive....thus no hidden partition is available like Jennifer suggested.
.
The XP sticker may still be on the bottom with the windows activation to use.

So if you have an xp install disc, you can re-install xp and use the windows activation key from the sticker.

Other than that, I too recommend that you keep win 7 as it is a much better OS.

Try these 3 free virus detection and removal programs and run them till they run clean.
1- Malwarebytes

2- Trojan Remover

3- Hitman Pro

you also didn't say which anti-virus is installed? that could also hve a bearing on how the laptop is running
