I get adobe reader? when trying to open pdf

October 6, 2011 at 14:37:30
Specs: Windows 7
Most of the time when trying to open a pdf file adobe reader attempts to open, but I get a little rectangle box that says "adobe reader?" and then the screen goes black. Occasionally it works fine, but once it has worked once, the next time I try to use it I get this problem, and it continues to happen for 2-3 days, even if I reboot the computer. But then, magically, it works again one time, and then the "adobe reader?" and black screen appears if I try to use it again. Any suggestions? It seems like a virus, but I can't find any information on it.

run chkdsk /f on the drive to see if there is any disk or file system corruption
update and run your malware/antivirus checkers

Then uninstall adobe, download the latest and greatest and then install it.
