Are you trying to open documents stored locally or on a network drive? Are these documents you have created or ones you have D/Led from the internet or received in an email. Have you tried creating a new file, saving it locally and then immediately re-opening it?

Does this happen to all Word documents or only a specific one? Also which version of MS Office are you running?

✔ Best Answer
That typically happens when you try to use a shortcut that is connected to a file on a network or external drive that is disconnected, off, asleep, or otherwise not available. It will also happen if you copy a shortcut instead of the file from another source or email and that source is not present. If you right click on the icon and select Properties, you will see a tab that says Shortcut if that is what it is. It will also show the path it is trying to use to find the file. If you know the path has an error (drive number has changed, etc), you can correct the path, OK it and try again or simply look for the original file itself using the clues in the listed path.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

That can be for a lot of reasons ... weird characters in there ? Is it a format your version of Office/Word can manage ? Did you create the document yourself ?

Hi there.
