Solved I can't get my PC to recognize any device on any USB port

March 14, 2013 at 10:07:00
Specs: Windows 7, 64, Intel Core i5, 8 GB
Dell software support has been trying to fix the problem. It started out with just one port not working, now none are working. They say I need to replace the motherboard. I do not trust Dell, they have charged me over $600 in software support in 11 months since I have had the PC. How can I find out what is really wrong? I am a user, NOT a technician. I don't know if it is a software problem, or a hardware problem.

A one year warranty is standard for Dell systems. If you're paying for support from them, something isn't right.

Look at Device Manager and see if there are any items that have a question mark or exclamation point next to them.

What make/model is the computer? Are you able to get a mouse/keyboard to work?

Possibly a driver update from Dell's site (if they have not already tried that with you) may help and cannot hurt.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
