Label is a name.

Usually you press enter as I recall.

Why do you want to do such a thing anyway.

A Pit Bull is like a gun you can pet. And there is no safety on it.

If you are trying to format C drive from within Windows then it is not possible. Windows will not destroy itself which is what you would be doing. Once you format C drive you will not have an operating system and you will have to install Windows or what ever operating system you now want. Formatting the drive for installing an operating system on, is typically (with Windows at least, and I am pretty sure most Linux for a while also) taken case of from the install disk. Make sure this is what you really want to do before proceeding. Better, tell us in more detail what you are really trying to do and why so we can really help you.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

It is asking for a vol label so as to confirm that you really do want to format the drive indicated by the letter you typed for the reasons stated above. While you might miss-type a single letter, it is difficult to miss-type a whole word and still have it mean something.

For Windows 7 the label with be something like Local Disk or Windows or just OS. The user can change it to anything they like by selecting Rename in Windows Explorer.
