Are these pay/member sites or free downloads? The free sites seems to come and go.

Well until you post more information such as the website you are going to and any error messages you might see, there's not a lot we can do for you.

As I mentioned above, those free sites come and go. Here's one that's working OK now:

I had no trouble with that. I downloaded about 15% and then canceled. But that was enough to verify it worked. You must have some problem with your browser settings or maybe you have some silly download manager that's messing things up. Are you having a problem downloading other files?

It began playing immediately for me in Windows Media Player,
despite the fact that I've changed scads of settings in Windows
and Media Player to limit how they connect to the Internet.

It's a direct link to the mp3 so clicking on it starts the download. You don't get the download 'save or open' box. I use an old winamp player that I guess isn't associating a downloading mp3. Your player must not be setup that way. Anyway for mp3 downloads I usually use the 'right click and save' so it downloads as any other file.

I wonder if that's what's confusing the OP. He's expecting a download box but instead the mp3 is loading but he's not aware of it.

So, might it be useful to ask him what player he has
associated to MP3 files?
