Specs: Windows 7
i don't understand enough about the purpose of it to ask any intelligent question other than i have files i've been trying for f---ing days to open and get a bunch of letters and hieroglyphics futher sucking the life out of me. it's so complicated i have no hope of understanding what, how or why my complicated life needs any more crap cluttering up my space. i just want to be able to read the attachments to my emails. i'm tired of everyone treating me like i'm stupid and they have a target to focus mean remarks on. everyone assumes that everyone else knows about computers when they don't. belittling and disparaging people with little or no experience or instruction has no purpose. no one is born with that kind of knowledge. i need help.

Win RAR is a compression program similar to Winzip. So to shrink down a large file it is compressed and given the extension .rar so the file you are attempting to open must have a .rar extension "my file.rar" If Winrar is installed, when you double click on the file it should uncompress it and show you the contents of the file. You need a compatible winrar version and in some cases the files are split which would be difficult for you the novice to splice back together the first time....so I hope its not a split. Do you know what is supposed to be in it ...pictures, a program, do you know. Does the file end in .rar? Yes it can be frustrating, sorry you got some nasty tech talk, some folks assume more than they should, it's hard to judge.

I'm a little puzzled. You seem to be accusing people here of belittling and disparaging you and yet this is your first post.

It's possible that you have had bad experiences elsewhere but I'm not sure that it is polite, or wise, to take out your frustration on people here.

Cool down ...

The most common problem is, that people do not clearly communicate, what they intend to do and which program they're using, to accomplish that.

This makes it hard for everyone, to help.
This does not apply on computer problems.

Look, we are not able to see, what you see.
And on bad questions, we only can guess, what the real problem is.
