August 11, 2012 at 23:33:13
Specs: Windows 7
Daughter tried to restore computer to factory settings but now it gets stuck when she tries to reboot. Of course computer did not come with a Windows 7 disk so can't reinstall. Her sister has an identical computer if we can make something from that. Hope someone can help, My daughter is missing this computer badly and Staples says it will be $100 or more to fix.

HP Machines come with a Restore Partition, so it can be set to Factory Default:

ARM Devices the future. Windows have accepted the fact!

Something less drastic first:
Make a Windows 7 Repair Disk (under the Back Up section) from the other computer (from any Windows 7 machine as long as both are 32bit or 64bit machines) and use that to do a Start Up Repair. This is a good tool to keep around.

Failing that, check your online manual (or above link) to do a Factory Restore again from scratch.

If that fails also, make a Disk Image of the other identical computer (this will only work since they are identical) onto an external hard drive and using the external hard drive and the Repair Disk you made to boot to, do a Restore from Disk Image onto the non-working machine.

If this also fails, you have a hardware problem, probably a bad hard drive or a bad memory stick. Post exact results for more assistance on that.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

"Of course computer did not come with a Windows 7 disk so can't reinstall"

No, but you are expected to create the Recovery Disc Set. Unfortunately, no one ever reads the manual.
