HP Printer out of paper when it is not

May 29, 2011 at 13:27:26
Specs: Windows 7
my HP Deskjet F4400 Series All-in-one printer will not recognize paper in the feed box. When I try to print I get the out of paper message and nothing I do fixes the problem. This happened suddenly, previously the printer printed just fine. What to do?

There is a switch in the tray at the far end that senses if paper is present. Maybe something got under it and won't let it depress. Closing the paper guides too much and pinching the paper can also cause that problem.

I used a flashlight and looked in there, two white plastic switch type levers I see, they both raise a little when I put the paper in, so they must not be the problem. I tried to print again and nothing....as usual....not even the message now. It is as if the printer is not responding to the computer at all...what should I do to fix this? HP help is no help at all. Thanks
