HP laptop typing numbers instead of letters !

December 23, 2010 at 15:07:02
Specs: Windows 7, AMD Turion 64 bit 2gb RAM
Every now and then my HP laptop which is running Windows 7 will start typing numbers instead of letters. If I turn off num lock the problem resolves itself but then my number pad is useless. I can't find any combination of keys that permanently corrects this issue so I have to do a system restore. Any ideas?

Hello there,

Shift + NumLock

or

FN + Scroll

etc etc .. I guess it changes by laptop model.

If you want to run the numeric keypad and type normally then I would suggest you invest in an external keyboard where you can do that. I do not believe it is possible to do on a laptop as the numlock keys are integrated with the letter keys.

Why would you do a system restore to correct this very simple problem? Is there some other problem you have not told us about?
