HP dv6-3050us laptop restart problem

August 16, 2010 at 16:54:12
Specs: Windows 7 home addition 64 bit
I am on my second dv6 in two days. I bought it and went thru setup, then un-installed norton and installed avg 9.0 and when I did a restart, it just stopped with a cursor in the leftmost corner of the screen and would not continue. never made it to the flash screen or normal boot screen. I now have a second new machine, and it is having the same problem. HP support says it is static electricity buildup and mus do a hard reset each time I want to restart or boot with the power cable attached, this seems wrong to me.

Thanks,
David B.

What does static electricity have to do with anything. Are you saying that you setup the machine and it loaded the os fine, then you removed Norton and installed AVG and when you rebooted, it wouldn't boot into windows? If you had static electricity buildup ( and where would that come from) the motherboard would fry. The guy was an idiot.

take it back and change it for a different machine, this is obviously a stupid hp support person and even if what he says is true, why would you pay for a piece of crap that doesnt work.
may i also suggest using ms security essentials rather than avg.

you can also check the power setup,

but personally i would get my money back and buy another machine from a reputable manufacturer ;-)

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
