HP a705w won't boot after installing Windows

Hewlett packard pavilion / A705w

Specs: Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, Celeron 2.93Ghz/2GbDDR
I have a HP Pavillion a705w desktop pc that I want to put windows 7 on. It can run Vista and I'm sure 7 would work just fine. The Win7 install gets as far as restarting after setting up the computer name and user account but it won't boot after this. What I do get on boot up is, a half screen of random coloured blocks and symbols and then the screen goes blank with no activity.

You should have run the Windows 7 compatibility tester on MS Windows 7 site BEFORE attempting to install. Your system is too old for Windows 7, it uses socket 478 Celeron of the P4 era, it came with 256MB RAM with a maximum of 1GB and it came with Windows XP, NOT Vista. Your specs:

And not even an AGP slot to get a decent video card. A am pretty sure that HP does not support Windows 7 on this machine with necessary drivers. Your best bet is to do a factory restore back to XP (if you have the upgrade you used if you had Vista, you might want to use that, but XP is probably best on this machine until you replace it with more modern hardware. Sorry.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
