What you really need is a bit simpler, you need a repair disk that you should have made when your system was running properly. You can make a repair disk on any other Windows 7 system of the same type (32bit or 64bit) so you can make one on a friend's or relative's machine. The repair disk can be booted to and you would run a start up repair from it. This would repair your boot manager very easily and documentation is clear and widely available. Other options include the ability to do a system restore to a saved restore point even though the system does not currently start, but I believe you just need the start up repair.

Your HP recovery set is unique to HP so you would need to search their site or contact them, but it also should be able to do a simple start up repair. Be careful not to invoke a factory restore since this will return your system to the exact state they shipped it (your files and your added programs will be gone unless you have a file back up and all install disks).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
