Hello everyone,
I recently bought a new laptop which is running Windows 7 Home edition. When I first booted the machine, I was prompted for info by Windows for my new user account. Once that was done I began to change various Windows settings and installed some applications. I didn't install much and it was all freeware which I downloaded, things like Firefox and XNView. There were some files on my desktop PC that I wanted to copy to the laptop so I started Windows Easy Transfer to copy these files as well as some system settings. The problem is when I came to the point to map the different user accounts, Easy Transfer prompted me to create a new user account on my laptop even though I wanted all the settings mapped to the user account I just created when I first started the laptop.

The first user account Windows created was named "Dan" so when easy transfer prompted me for a new profile name I used the name "Dan-Asus". I don't recall what the actual prompts were from Easy Transfer but I was hoping that even though it was asking for a new profile name I'd still be able to transfer these files/settings to the "Dan" user account. I got distracted for a while while doing all this and when I came back I let Easy Transfer start without realizing I'd mapped everything to the "Dan-Asus" user account which was not my intention.

I know I can still use either user account but I guess I'm being anal and want to delete the user "Dan-Asus" account completely including any system settings that may have been transferred. Prior to my starting Easy Transfer I'd set up a restore point, I'm wondering if I run system restore from that point will it undo all the changes made by Easy Transfer, deleting all my files and undoing any system changes? What effect does simply deleting a user account have, will that undo any of the changes to the system made by Easy Transfer?

I know I'm sounding a bit anal but I just bought this laptop and want to make sure the system install is clean as can be and running like new. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

I am not sure if system restore will reverse an added user (very possibly), but it will not delete files that were saved. It should reverse changes to settings/preferences and it will restore system files and your registry to the way they were. I hope that this helps and I am sure others will fill in the blanks for you.
I personally have always manually set up every new system and manually transferred Favorites/Bookmarks and files because I feel more in control and more sure of a clean machine.
I recommend installing your antivirus program as soon as Windows update and all drivers have been installed/updated (before other downloads and installs).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

I'm with Fingers, System Restore is worth a try.

I've never used Easy Transfer, just Copy & Paste to a thumb drive.
