Specs: Windows 7 sp2, celeron 2.4 / 4 gig ram
machine shut down normally fourteen days ago, now will not normal boot beyond glowing logo screen, will not boot into safe mode, MSoft OEM disc will not repair, says it is wrong version, startup repair reports it cannot help, chkdsk reports all normal, command prompt will display files normally, and it will run regedit from the command prompt. My next step may be to restore registry manually.

"rstrui.exe" starts the GUI (located under %systemroot%\system32)

Consider launching System Restore from Safe Mode. It will restore the registry to the date of the restore point when the machine was working correctly. As long as the drive is OK, you should be set.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
