how to reset to default group policy windows 7

January 1, 2016 at 12:31:22
Specs: Windows 7x64, Intel i3 2GB Ram
All of a sudden I get a message saying Group Policy is blocking uTorrent, sounds very Microsoft to me, a group the sole user isn't in + wasn't even aware of, changes being made I don't want + didn't know about, + message describing problem loud + clear, solution to the problem? Nothing, answers/solutions are sadly lacking. I ran a .bat file, as an Adm'tor, but it didn't fix it so I'd be grateful for any more ideas on how to reset Group Policy to default, or maybe how to find + edit the specific rule/policy? Hope to hear from someone soon.....

Of course failure is an option, it's why I'm here!

As Torrents are prone to viruses it could be that something has crept in. You could try these freebies on it in the order given:

AdwCleaner:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run the program. Use the "Scan" button, followed by the "Cleaning" button.

Junkware Removal Tool (JRT)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/dow...
(blue Download button near top - not anything else on the page).
Download and "Save" the file somewhere. Go to the saved file then double click it to run JRT. It might appear to have stopped at times or flash the screen but sit tight until it has finished.

MalwareBytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
Download the free version.
Install and Run the program but before doing its Scan go to "Settings > Detection and Protection" and put a checkmark in "Scan for rootkits". Quarantine anything it finds.

Please copy/paste the logs on here.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Haven't had time yet, Derek, but I don't 'torrent' much + I run Malwarebytes, Hitman Pro, ** as well as K'sky I S 2016, I'm quite OCD about it! I've a couple of 'avenues' I want to go down but assuming my usual success bleeping computer will be my next stop. I'm am much obliged for your time + I will let you know what happens....
** SpyBot S+D 2, also.

It might still be worth running ADWCleaner as it only takes a few minutes and finds quite different things to the others. Having said that from what you've said then malware sounds a less likely reason for your reported issue.

Is this what you've tried?:

I only mention it because their stuff usually works.

Hi, I don't know if you've heard anything? but I've been reliably informed that the latest uTorrent update, the one that's been the source of my misery, is 'infected' with, and I quote, ".....bad programming....". I'd call it something more agrarian, were it not a family site, but at least it's not due to 'pilot error' so I can blame someone other than myself! Download an older version was what I was told which I did, my new nemesis, Group Policy again weren't down with that so another torrent client is my next move, I make enough of a mess of things as it is without anyone else joining in. Thank y'all for your advice, I am grateful. Cheers, Si
