✔ Best Answer
Turn off the computer and disconnect all peripherals: scanners, printers, card readers etc.
Turn on the computer
Press the F11 key repeatedly before the Compaq logo appears
At the I need help immediately section, select System Recovery

This process deletes all your personal files. Backup your files before you continue!
Select Recover without backing up your files and click Next, if you already created a backup of your files.
Click OK
Wait for the restore process to finish
Click Finish when this process is complete
Turn off your computer
You can now connect the peripherals back to your computer
Follow the on-screen instructions to setup Windows 7 again.

Are you sure the original OS is Win7? Looking at the HP/Compaq site, it shows XP or Vista. If Win7 was installed by the previous owner, doing a factory reset will restore the original OS. Look for the Windows Product label on the underside of the laptop; it may be under the battery. That will tell you what the original OS was. If it's a Win7 label, you're good to go. If it's XP or Vista, you'll probably want to reconsider doing the reset.
