I have the same problem. There is no name to the folder accept under it, "searchplugin". This folder is empty and as well as finding on the desktop after IE is closed, I have found it in many folders thruout the pc using the windows search all folders and files on the c: drive. At this point I would delete all of them. And after two days of scans by many anti virus programs, now the search for folders option can no longer find the folders even when I am looking at it on the desktop. It has progressed to "unfindable" and even opening other folders on the pc, this "searchplugin" folder pops up in there right in front of my eyes.
I still have the web pages highjacked occationally as I use that pc to search for solutions. I now am using another PC to find answers.
I am a tech working on a customers PC. The virus's found so far are:(Malwarebytes) found: PUP.bundleinstaller.ib, trojan.lameshield, pup.bprotector (this was removed and turned up again), (Kapersky TDSSkiller) found 10 infections and removed them-names not recorded, (Trend Micro Housecall) found BKDR PAPRAS.HX trojan, (SuperAntiSpyware-1st time found nothing-2nd time) found trojan agent/Gen Nullo[Short] plus losts of spyware. This last one was after Trend Micro. Other scans after that found nothing.
With windows search, "bprotector" shows 16 temporary internet files and a folder. This was last thing done at this point. This item was detected by Malwarebytes with no checkmark. Using microsoft scan software, I found this bug as an "Applnit" and deleteing it, it returns constantly, and traceing it I found it's certificates to unknown maker. Symantec turned up somewhere while searching this file.
When I get into this folder to delete the protector.dll file, it can not be removed. I think this is the real cause of all this trouble.
Enough, time for some feedback.
