Go into your BIOS and set the boot order to have the CD/DVD player first. Insert your recovery disc in the drive and boot to it. Follow the prompts to install a new operating system.

You need to install an operating system on your new hard drive.

Did your computer come with a recovery disc?

Or you may be able to clone the original drive to the new one. Many new drives come with software to allow you to do this. It's also usually available as a download... and it's free.

If you were getting that same error with the old hard drive it's possible the motherboard port it's connected to has been disabled in bios setup. Also check the boot order there. Try putting the booting drive second behind the DVD or CD drive.

You might try all that with the old drive since, as already mentioned, the new one won't boot with no OS on it.

Good point from DAVEINCAPS.

What prompted you to replace the hard drive?

If your comp is not a workstation, do this.

1: Press F2 or Esc or Del or whatever your comp uses, during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
2: Go to the Boot menu.
3: Disable Boot to Network.
4: Make sure it is set to boot from the HD first.
5: Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS Setup.
