Solved how to get rid of pop up screen

May 16, 2014 at 14:10:30
Specs: Windows 7
Everytime I get on the startup on Internet Explorer a pop up comes on & asks if I want IE to be default (yes or no). It makes no difference what I click on - the pop up screen comes on everytime I click on a website. This is very annoying. Can I remove this?

Depends on whether you want to make it default or not (applies when you have another browser). The main advantage of making it default is that saved webpages and links will open in IE where possible rather than whatever other browser you have.

If you want to make it default do this:
From IE > Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab. Hit button marked "Make Default". Finally uncheck "Tell me if Internet Explorer is not the default web browser" - just underneath the button. Apply/OK your way out.

If that doesn't stick then you need to go to your alternative browser and ensure that is not set as default. Exactly how depends on the other browser (not given).

Of course you can instead choose to make your other browser the default following the same drift as given above.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

There is usually a small square in the bottom left corner which says "Do not ask again". Check it, then give the appropriate answer and it won't come back.
