Start - Control Panel - Backup and Restore - at the left top corner -
Create a System Repair Disc - It may say DVD but a CD works OK
With the Repair Disc in the tray, Restart your computer and be ready
to press any key when asked.
If it doesn't find and fix right off than click next and follow directions
from the list that should come up.

If you are running the 32 bit version of W7 Windows can't use more than 4GB of RAM.

Did this computer work OK in the past?

Go to Device Manager and see if all the hardware is working properly or if there are any yellow or red punctuation marks there.

Try disconnecting all unnecessary external devices, memory cards, flash drives, printers, scanners, eternal drives, etc and see if that changes anything.

What anti virus software are you using? Do you have it set to scan at start up?

hit f8 and choose save mode, do you still have the issues?
sounds like driver issues, reinstall your video driver first, control panel, graphics, unnstall the graphic card, check the box uninstall drivers, reboot, your system should install the right graphic driver automatically.
type msconfig in the run box/startup, uncheck any updates and programs that are in the startup list except microsoft startups, see if its any better.
i also think there is an issue with your memory setup, do you have 3 or 4 sticks? is it all the same? check with the mobo manufacturer website if you have your memory correctly set, reseat the memory, try running only 4gb in two corressponding slots, ie slots of the same colour.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
