A shortcut is simply that. Deleting a shortcut will not remove the actual file. If the shortcut pointed at a file of some type that you created then it should reside somewhere in your Documents folder.

Do you remember what the name of the file was? Just type it in the search box that you see after click on the Start orb in the lower left corner of your screen. You can make another shortcut by at least two methods. Right click on the file listing and there should be an option to create a shortcut. The shortcut will be created in the same folder as the original file. Now right click on the shortcut and cut the shortcut. Then paste it where you want it. You can also drag and drop to make a shortcut but there are more rules for that process.
