HP Scanjet 5100c Scanner is not supported on Windows 7 because HP has not released a Windows 7 driver for it:

This means you must buy a new scanner for Windows 7 or later.

There are occasions when an earlier drive will work OK; in your case possibly the XP drivers?

I have found this to happen when upgrading an OS to a new one and left the previous drivers installed of course. There being no "new" drivers by the printer manufacturer, I found that the last/most recent driver was OK in the new OS.

Equally I have sometimes found that Canon drivers are not always around on every Canon site... I ended up hunting via Google (and Yahoo and Dogpile) for the drivers I needed; and found them on an Australian/far East site... They were not available on any other website at the time.

Just came across this software, I have not used it, but appears it may be what you need
and its free.

According to the link below that scanner may be 20 years old. Specs call for 3.x as the OS, which indicates it is really old. Even if you could get it working the scan quality pales to what you can get for little cash these days. I suggest you give up on it and buy a new scanner.

If you insist on getting it working then try installing it under WinXP mode, if that is what you used before. I am assuming you HAVE a Parallel port and are not using adapters of some type.
