Solved How to convert windows media icon in their default icon

Specs: Windows 7
when i try to open a particular song in windows media player,,,all the icons in my desktop change into windows media player icon............how do i fix the problem,,,,,,kindly help me out, so that i can convert those icon in their default icon......

There is also another alternative.

If you don't want to lose all your data, just format only your C drive (or whichever drive you have installed your OS in), since only your OS is corrupted.

You need not format your whole disk.

I think your system has been infected with a virus.

What actually is happening is, your file system has been corrupted. So all your files appear similar, and when you open a single file in Windows media player or VLC player or anything else, the default "open with" type of all the other files and apps also change to dat type.

I experienced this same problem in my laptop a few days ago, but since it was under warranty, i took it to the service centre and got my hard drive formatted and reinstalled windows.

I suggest that you format ur hard drive after taking a backup of your data and reinstall windows and get a good antivirus software installed.
