Solved how to connect new printer

Specs: Windows 7
I bought a new used HP all in one printer. It is the same model as my old one except that it has a different front. It is an Officejet Pro 8500. It won't print files I send to it. It just sits there. When I use the tools on the printer, it says I'm not connected. I've tried everything.

There is "usually" a setup routine with a replacement printer... Even if it resembles very closely your previous printer..

There will likely be a cd/dvd and hopefully even some very basic instructions in the box with the printer?

Basically you setup/install the printer as a usb printer - first; then setup the network aspects...

This is a link to hp support/download area fro the assorted manuals/guides.. I suggest you download the lost. You will need to read the "setup poster", the "user guide", and the "wifi getting started guide" The fax you can deal with later?

Important thing to remember is to follow "exactly" the order in which hp advises you do it; and as above it's usually usb setup first...

All of the above of course presumes that this "used" (but new to you?) printer does actually work; that the person or store who sold it to you demonstrated that it does work "properly")?

If you are trying to use it over wifi then the wifi settings will need to be re-installed for "this" printer. Your previous (identical...) printer has a different mac (network) address to the "newer" one. And your list of installed printers will be referring to the previous printer, and thus you have to "add" the newer/replacement printer afresh. And as presumably you have dumped the previous printer... delete that one from the list of installed printers.
