how to clone a corrupted external hard drive

Specs: Windows 7
my external hard drive is corrupted and when i plug in drive the hard drive asks that i re-format it. I have a western digital media player that i use to view my files through my tv. the files are there because i can view the pictures and watch the movies.

The WD player leaves a folder on the hard drive that memorizes how much of a movie etc that has been watched. You can just delete it from the external drive and it will get rebuilt from scratch when you plug it back in to the TV.

I would say that some of the torrents you downloaded are probably infected. Try salvaging the movies you can from the external drive using Recuva:

which is free, and then reformatting your drive.

Actually, have you tried scanning the external for viruses, spy and adware yet? Try that first.

Post the information for that external that shows in Windows Disk Management when the drive listing is highlighted.

See if testdisk or photorec can recover files. Many other apps exist too.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
