how to change setting in PC using SVGA cable

Specs: Windows Vista
Okay. So I have a Toshiba Laptop that I am trying o hook up to my tv using a SVGA cable. The picture shows, but I can not get the sound to come through using the other cord. I hear I am supposed to change my settings in my laptop but not sure where to go or what to do. Please Help

If your laptop and tv have hdmi ports, use those. hdmi allows sound and video to be transferred through one cable.

As grasshopper mentions, an SVGA cable (see link below) is only designed to transfer video, not sound. If there are no HDMI cables on your Toshiba, you could possibly use a sound output (headphones) to the input of your TV.
