I have a buddy of mine that wants me to back up his files off his hard drive from his old computer, He was using Windows XP and had a password on his account well I know his password anyways I am using Windows 7 and I put the hard drive in my computer and im trying to get into his documents to back his files up but It says I dont have permission to do so, I had set his hard drive to were i have full permission to use it in the security tap but i still cant get into his documents. The file My documents i manage to set to were i can open it but i cant touch anything in there, How can I back all of his stuff up.
Take ownership unless they were encrypted as in xp pro encryption. Hang up and live.

I am confused as to how these files are. You kind of suggest that you need to use take ownership but you also add in some security questions. If you can tell me directly that they were encrypted within windows and they should show up as green usually then that is a different deal.

There is no mention of encyption by the OP.
Fact he can set security means they are not encryptedAppears its just a matter of taking ownership of the files/foldes so his sid and the files sids match granting access.
