Take ownership unless they were encrypted as in xp pro encryption.

Hang up and live.

I am confused as to how these files are. You kind of suggest that you need to use take ownership but you also add in some security questions.

If you can tell me directly that they were encrypted within windows and they should show up as green usually then that is a different deal.

Try taking ownership as noted above. Use help and support pages or some search page or http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Hang up and live.

There is no mention of encyption by the OP.
Fact he can set security means they are not encrypted

Appears its just a matter of taking ownership of the files/foldes so his sid and the files sids match granting access.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

Then explain this phrase. "I had set his hard drive to were i have full permission to use it in the security tap but i still cant get into his documents. "

Unless he failed to correctly do that it should have worked.

Hang up and live.
