Specs: Windows 7
How to acces data on a windows7 drive that you have installed in a pc with same o/s.

Trying to access data on a drive that will not boot up but can see all other files on drive, can not access the user profile area of drive " gives access error " How do you by pass the security to get to the data?

You may just need to take ownership of the files/ folders. Look at the links below for help with that.

If the files were encrypted then you may not be able to access them at all.

Thanks, It looks like by deflaut windows7 does what xp pro gave you a option to do, which was keep files private at the time of user account is created. Does this sound right to you?

User profiles in WinXP are also not accessible by other users unless shared. Windows 7 does have a more robust version of this. When migrating a hard drive to a different computer running WinXP files may need to be accessed by taking ownership, same as Vista & 7. Process is a little different with each OS is all.
