Well his started installing, 4-6 hours its on number 4 of 6 updates, how long should I wait , or should he wait beofre we have to hard hard boot it, and pray its not like my computer which crashed and I am still rebuilding right now ? 3 days +

If it is on the install part I would give it 1/2 HR to 1 HR. If it is on the download part, I would give it maybe 2 Hrs depending on your internet connection speed.
If it will not restart in normal mode, try Safe Mode and then do a system restore to before the update began. If you cannot get it to start in Safe Mode either, take a Windows 7 Repair Disk (you can make one for a 64bit Windows 7 machine from any 64bit Windows 7 machine that is working well), boot to that (change DVD to first in boot order) and do a Repair>System Restore from there (you still have all of your restore points available to you from there).
While there may be a problem with the updater, there also may be a Trojan on the system that is now preventing updates and anything that might be able to find it. I recently had a really nasty one of those on a system and ended up reloading Windows (and everything) after many hours trying to remove it. To test this possibility (after restoring) try the following things and if you cannot do some of them, you might be infected:
Open Task Manager
Open Control Panel
Install and run Malwarebytes
Open the System Restore (without actually starting it) Window
Let us know how it goes.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
