cannot open certain sites because my "Default mail client" is not installed correctly

Choose a mail client such as Live mail, Outlook or Thunderbird, install it and configure it.
You apparently use a webmail right now so you will need to find out if the mail you use supports a POP3 mail client or not. If it does not then you will either need to stay with webmail or change your email to one that does. Typically email through your ISP gives you both options but free mail like GMail, Yahoo and others often do not. With email through your ISP you typically can use it both ways.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
