Dell Latitude e6410 atg laptop computer...

Specs: Windows 7
The power options in the control panel are set to turn off the display after x amount of minutes and put the computer to sleep after y amount of minutes.

I don't know how to wake the computer (DELL) up and end up having to hard boot.

I used to see the power button light flashing and I would just gently press it once and wriggle my mouse and it would come back on, but recently the power button is a solid light when it sleeps and no amount of pressing the button, wriggling the mouse or playing with various keys does anything.

That can often happen if you also have a screen saver set to become active as well as sleep and/or other power-saving features enabled. In that case, disable screen saver.
