What are my system restore options for windows 7? Once a year i like to completely wipe my hard drives. However, I did not get a windows 7 restore disk with my emachines computer. I did burn the 3 or 4 dvds for something, i think a system image. Can i just copy the windows file? properties show it at about 15 gbs. is there any cd-dvd-bd media that can hold a file that size? can i use the windows 7 disk i bought from newegg, for my other comp, and then put in the keys from the side of the case on the emachines computer? a guy at a local computer shop said he could sell me a disk for $20 and then i would put in my keys. any ideas guys? thanks in advance.....

If you took a system image at the start than you should be qable to restore it by booting from that DVD set.

If your other computer windows 7 disk is for the same version of windows 7 (eg, most common is home premium, 64 bit OEM) then yes you can install from that using the key from the COA on the case. You'll also need to obtain (or save if they're on hard drive currently) any drivers needed (windows will probably have most but not all).

You can't just copy the windows file (I assume you mean folder). You need to take a backup image - and anyway if you want a clean install, what's on there currently is useless (you'd just be putting it back!). The best thing to backup to is an external hard drive (always a good idea to have a backup anyway).

hey Steve, thanks for the prompt reply. what worries me is that i had already gotten a virus on my computer before i created the system image dvds. Both of my computers have windows 7 home premium 64 bit, so from what you said i think ill try that. i will wipe the drive and then run that installation disk and put in the keys from the emachines computer. if that doesnt work ill order a restore disk from emachines, their website said it costs $19.95. they also have some drivers available on their website. on another note, this computer, the emachines, stopped installing updates about a month ago, they all say failed. any ideas on that? so anyway, its time to clean out all the junk and start over. i definitely want to get rid of cyberlink off my hard drive.

DO NOT FORMAT THE DRIVE!
your machine will come with a hidden partition that contains the OS that your machine started with, you can access this partition by tapping a key at boot, usually and F key. you should check the manual or website for ""factory restore"", the process is easy and fast.
you cannot use the key on the certificate that stuck to the computer case when installing from a disk.

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
