You may need more then that. Shure SM58's are low impedance microphones. Usually around 600 Ohms. Most sound card inputs want a much higher impedance mic around the order of 10k Ohms. If you don't get a decent volume out of it or if it sounds distorted you will need an impedance matching transformer. Find a pro music shop in your area, they will have the impedance matching transformer you need.
