Solved how can I reboot my pc, i have no disc?

May 14, 2015 at 09:04:55
Specs: Windows Vista
My pc wont boot up. All I get showing on the screen is F2 or F12 initially followed by message saying "insert boot disc and press key". I have no boot disc and did not make recovery sector on pc. Do I need to buy a Boot disc to reinstall the system? ...any suggestions please

BIOS directly relates to hardware - Windows effectively runs on it:

To get into it you most likely tap F2 while starting. It should tell you on the screen as it starts - it usually refers to Setup rather than BIOS. If you can't get there let us know the make and model number of your computer so we can check whether F2 is the right key. It would be a good idea to provide that info anyway.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

It sounds like your hard drive may have failed. A boot disc won't cure that. Enter the BIOS & check to see if your drive is being recognized or not.

Also double check you haven't got a disk in the CD/DVD unit?

Something else to try...

Download and burn to a DVD a ubuntu ISO (a Linux variant); boot with that DVD.

It will load into RAM only and then allow you to access the hard drive - if the drive is OK.

If it can't find/access the hard drive then it will tend to support riider's prognosis re' the drive having "failed".

If there's anything on the hard drive you'd like to save/recover - and it hasn't already been safeguarded/copied off the system already.... - there "may" be a way to recover it even though the drive may not appear to boot at present...

But first check the DVD drive as above; and also download the ubuntu (free) ISO here:
