Did you select the C drive (assuming that's where your system resides), as per items 5 & 6 in Johnw's link in #1 above?

Over a period of time you can decide whether the percentage selected (item 10 slider in the link) gives you the number of restore points you require.

Hi Derek, thanks for your reply. Step 5 is the start of my problem. I do not have any options in the "Protection Settings" box. Under Available Drives, it says "searching", until the unexpected error 0x81000203 comes up, telling me to close the property page and try again. It obviosly does not work upon trying again. I have tried several times, to no avail. Something is definitely broken.

Hi John, I replied to Derek, saying problem starts with step 5 but it is 3. Everything is greyed out. Searches for availble drives but returns the 0x81000203 error and that is where I am stuck. I am about to try the Windows Repair tool download. Thanks for your reply.
