help with .cmd extension

April 21, 2011 at 18:52:56
Specs: Windows 7 64, QC9770 / 8 GB
An old program (Critical Mass) took possession of the cmd extension. I have deleted the offending program, but I can not get windows to recognize the .cmd extension anymore. I tried to fix it by associating cmd with cmd.exe. Now all that happens it a command window opens and sits there. I can't get the 'shell' part of cmd.exe to execute scripted files. Please Help!

tickruck, Try the "cmd file association fix" at the link below. Instructions are on the page.

That worked!!! I was facing a complete rebuild. Now the shell acts like a SHELL again and not just a command window. The associations are correct also (in 'control panel' >> 'default programs'.

Thanks again
