I am not sure this is the right place but i thought i would give this a try. I want to set up a computer that i have so all my computers in my house can access files on it but here is the hard part, i do not want my home internet connection to be slowed down. I have been googling for a long time trying to figure this out but it seems like nobody has tried this. i was thinking i could hook a wireless router up to my extra computer and have a separate access point from my home router. How can i do this?

Largely because there's rarely a reason to do so. Cable is, what, 30Mb/s at best? (Mine's closer to 2mb/s, but whatever.) Your home network is, what, 100/1000/54 Mb/s? Your Internet connection IS the bottleneck.

have you ever tried to watch a video from another computer over wireless internet and go on the internet with another? it is really slow. and you never ever ever get your full 54 mbps. i did a speed test and i get about 3.5 mbps through wifi.

Yes, I have. A full blown FTP transfer from my server to my laptop, over wireless, and there was enough spare bandwidth to maintain my normal Internet speed. If you are having problems, you might want to look into a better wireless access point; it should not bog down because another computer is downloading a file.
