Are you trying to format the C drive? If so, you cannot format your system drive from Windows.

Why are you trying to format anyway? You will have no operating system after that.

You are asking your system to commit suicide. As has been said you cannot format C: from within C: Take note of reply #2 above.

Ok here's the whole story. Recently my C hard drive went bad and I lost every thing so while setting the new one up I used the wrong image disks. So do I need to reimage or format either way I would like to get my computer back and not have to use the settings of the image disks I used on accident.

Essentially you lose nothing if you format and re-install because you had nothing worthwhile on the drive in the first place. Format and re-install both these operations can be done using the Windows 7 install disk.

Thanks Ewen I was able to do this and get my settings back. Now my problem is my computer still thinks it has a 284GB hard drive in it. But when I had to replace the old one I put a 500GB in it. Any ideals on how to get it to recognize the new hard drive.

I can't help you with that one, hopefully someone else will pickup on the post and be of some assistance. A Google search may help. It occurs to me that you will also have to install the Windows updates SP1, SP2, and SP3 in order for Windows to see the proper size (particularly SP1)
