Having same problem with tmp file production

August 11, 2017 at 11:02:29
Specs: iPhone
This exact thing is happening on my son's computer. Every day he makes 20,000 tmp files even if he doesn't use the computer at all. We called Microsoft and they said it sounded like a virus. We ran AVG, Malware Bytes, and a few others and it didn't catch anything. We called AVG and they said that it's normal to produce that many tmp files despite not using the computer. They said it wasn't a virus. I don't buy it.

Run Disk Clean Up, check off everything except maybe passwords and OK it.
Run these also:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/adwcle...
https://www.malwarebytes.com/junkwa...
Set most programs NOT to launch with Windows.
Clean out browser History (everything).

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

When you've run those two run this one as well:

MalwareBytes:
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
(use the "Free Download" button rather than the "Buy Now" button).
After the install go to "Settings > Protection". Under Scan Options move the "Scan for rootkits" slider over to On and Run the Threat Scan. Quarantine anything it finds.

Those three programs often find what others miss.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Try opening up one of the tmp files in notepad. Possibly you may get a clue as to what's creating them.

In what folder are you finding the files?

--Yes but it's a dry heat.
