Solved harddrive test failed need help

Specs: Windows 7
did a Dell PC Diagnostic results where targeted read test failed WHD20-U75 and smart short selftest WHD16BH2 What does this mean just had a new harddrive put in about a month ago

It means the drive is faulty, though you may have to test it with the drive maker's own diagnostics software before they'll agree to replace it. Contact them for an RMA (Returned Merchandise Authorisation).

You've just been unlucky. Even with new hard drives, a percentage of them leave the factory in a faulty condition. Either that or the person who installed it for you has mis-handled it or dropped it.

First, test your system memory with Memtest86 to make sure that your memory is not bad and giving you a false hard drive error. If it passes all tests, then test it with the hard drive mfg's utility to prove it is really good or bad.

Actually, if the drive is working at all and you have any data on it that is not already backed up, back it up before doing anything at all. If there is any chance that the drive might get worse during the tests as can often happen, you might loose the chance of saving your data if you do not do this first!

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
