"Hard Drive Failed I need download a copy of the OS"

MS have a subsidiary for downloading W7 ISO's, use your product number for the matching version.

Windows operating systems are not available for downloading legally. You might be able to get a disk from somewhere like eBay but you need to get one with a product key.

EDIT:
Seems there is a legal way of getting a download after all, see post #4 below from Johnw. If for any reason that doesn't work out there is always eBay etc.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Also.... contact the laptop manufacturer for a replacement disk set... Even though these days they seldom provide them with current windows OS kit... they have been known to provide a set - when advised that the hard drive has failed totally (and thus no recovery partition options available...

When you do get the system rebuilt... make your own set of recovery disks; and also get into the habit of duplicating your personal files etc- to external (media; usually optical but another HD is also good).

Is the disk totally "toast"? Or can you still access it to some degree?

Good tip Johnw

Sometimes folk don't realise that an ISO is just a compressed file, so the content can be extracted with 7-Zip etc on older systems. In Win 7 and 8 it is associated with the inbuilt extractor - same one that opens zip files.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
