Google Toolbar distortion issue on Win 7 IE8

Specs: Windows 7, i7 / 6GB
Recently, my Google Toolbar in IE has been becoming "distorted" after use.

The top part of this image is what my Google toolbar looks like after a few minutes of browsing. The lower part of the picture is after I have moved my mouse over the "Check" and "AutoFill" buttons (causing them to revert to normal). I've already tied reinstalling the latest toolbar version, but things are still not working right. Any other ideas?

I don't use GT but did you know that Google has a help site for users having trouble with it? The URL for the GT help site is below.

Yeah, I've been to the Google help site. Unfortunately the forum for Google Toolbar was closed in February and there are no FAQs or other info on this issue.

Update: I just installed the latest version of the toolbar on my other computer, and it too now has the problem. Can anyone else try/confirm this is an issue with the latest Toolbar version?

PS: All the toolbar versiosn 6.6.* seem to do thsi on both of my computers. The 6.5.* versions of the toolbar are fine...

M$ acknowledged HERE that there are incompatibility issues with Google Toolbar and Internet Explorer 8. You have two choices fix it yourself or let M$ fixs it for you, or else use Firefox or any other browsers other than IE8 if you are hopelessly addicted to google toolbar.

To quote that knowledge base article: "RESOLUTION - Update to the latest Google Toolbar". Since the issue presents it self with the latest toolbar version, but not with the older 6.5 version, I would say that is not related.
