When typing email, suddenly a line of nonsense letters or symbols takes over the message. For example, yesterday it was a row of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's that took over--shutting me out of the message. It also appeared in the shut down message and in InDesign where i would type in a Save As filename and other such places that require my input. It seem to clear after I restart the computer and appears again from time to time. I have a McAffee security system.

is it always ZZZ? it maybe that your Z key is sticking,
try a system restore to a time before this issue started.
try re-imaging your drive (if you made an image copy)
make a new small partition 30 gb, install win 7 and see if its still happening.
oh yeah, dump macaffee and use ms security essentials, you already have a good firewall, defender, and essentials from microsoft..

i hate computers!
but cant help myself....
