Might be hard drive failure. Test it with the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software for DOS which loads from a bootable CD. The download links are here:
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm...

Download the appropriate ISO file on a working computer and create a CD from it using IMGBURN: http://www.filehippo.com/download_i...

Then boot your laptop from that CD.

You don't get any error messages? What happens when you press F2 or F12?

If it's stopping at the posting or logo screen with those options it probably isn't going far enough to boot from anything.

Unless you recently made changes in bios setup there's probably nothing there that needs to be changed now. You can check to see if the hard drive is identified there.

I'm still not sure what happens when you start it up. You get the posting or logo screen with the F2 and F12 options. Does it freeze there or does it reboot? If it reboots, can you tell if you're getting a momentary blue screen? If so there may be a fatal error with windows. You can disable the automatic reboot after an error if that's the case and it will leave you at the bliue screen which may give some info on the problem. Here's how to do that:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/...

Click on 'disable automatic restart on system failure'.

You might also see if you can boot to safe mode from that F8 menu.

If it's freezing at the logo or posting screen then, as already mentioned, there may be a hard drive problem. Download the fitness test and give it a try.

You might also disconnect the hard drive if you feel it's something you can do and then start it up. You should get an error something like 'no boot device available'. That might indicate the drive is bad in that the computer knows it's there (because it knows when it's missing) but it's not booting.

I'm still not sure what happens if you turn it on and don't press any keys. Does it reboot on its own or does it freeze at the F2, F12 option screen and do nothing else?

You should check the bios setup section in your laptop user manual if you have any question about the settings. Can you tell if the hard drive is showing there? The hard drive (if it's being recognized by the bios) should show on the boot menu too.

Did you try booting to safe mode from the F8 boot menu? If that menu comes up then the hard drive is at least being seen and windows is still there--at least in some form.

You never posted back on if you could get the F8 menu as I mentioned in # 5 or if you disconnected the hard drive to see what happens

You briefly mentioned some of the bios option in your # 6. Sounds like there may be an option there to boot to a recovery partition. If so you can try that. If it's successful you'd lose all your saved data but it likely at least would be working.

If you're unsure how to do that you need to check the user manual for your laptop.

The result of the above should help determine if it's a problem with windows or a hardware problem.

You can still try to boot from a bootable cd or dvd, either by creating a bootable disk as Phil mentioned in # 1 or a windows disk. If so, set the cd/dvd drive as the first boot device in cmos/bios setup.
